MTT Bubble 11/6/2005

I was doing okay, hanging out near the bubble, but on the right side of it. Until this hand. Talk about a passive play. How can I put him on this? It doesn't seem like a trap, but it sure took me down pretty far. I ended up out of the money, 44th out of 339 when my 88 ran into QQ. Thoughts?

I just have a problem with him limping along. I HATE passive plays like this. Granted, it worked, but I think it is pretty bad form, late in a tourney. Thoughts?

Hi, just stumbled across your blog and my thoughts:

First, you didn't raise from the blinds... If he really is this passive of a player, a raise may have allowed you to pick up a free pot (He would have to call with J4 off).

So he got a free look at the flop, and picked up middle pair. You bet, but only the min. So he might put you on a pair of 8's, where he is good still, or jacks like him, in which case he's got a bad kicker. If you bet higher, he might have put you on Q and folded his jack with weak kicker.

The turn was very bad for you, I would have checked. Sure, he may have checked to the river, but I doubt it.

After the river, you bet min again. I would have checked, to see what he would throw out, after all a very dangerous board for you. Q, J, 8, 10-9, hearts, or pocket pair will have you.

The bigger question is was he passive, or did he get a read on you to know how a passive player would get to you? I will often play "incorrect" poker when with a player who believes in "rules" of how to bet... it's a pretty fast way to get him to discount me as a non-threat since I just "get lucky" and also puts him on tilt when I continue to win.
