My break
Hey all,
Doubtful that anyone is out there still reading me, but thought I'd post where I'd been and what I'd been up to.
My roll was doing well, playing mostly on FullTilt. Then, I pulled the typical ameteur move. I started to play outside my bankroll.
Rookie mistake, I know. And I wish I could say it all turned out okay, but I ended up wiping myself out, and am a bit embarassed by it. So here I am to bear my soul. I found a new game that I was enjoying....Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo or PLO8. I was crushing the low limits, and thought I could just jump up to the next level that people were playing, 1/2. Boy was I wrong. They must have all licked their chops when they realized what a fish I was at the game. Looking back, I know that I was chasing too much with bad odds. I didn't realize how bad I was doing (you know how you make excuses for yourself, right, dear reader?) until I hit bottom and went back through the hand histories. According to my little Excel tracking sheet, I lost $500 in about 1 week at PLO8 1/2. Horrible, horrible losses. Like chasing my 6 out straight with no flush protection and no lo when heads up. Ugly stuff.
I wish it could end there, but I had moved up to $.25/.$50 NLHE as well from the dime/quarter NLHE games and made a bad run of cards there. A few hands were tilt, but the majority was just a bad run there, kind of like the stuff Daniel had going on with him at the WSOP this year. I would draw to the flush and miss, time and time again. Looking back at the histories, out of 55 draws I hit 2. All the calls were with the correct odds. Just bad luck. So I was down around $200 there. I finally busted. I didn't follow the "go down a level or two" advice when I started running bad. I just kept thinking "hey, I only need to hit a few to get back!" It was a bad place to be.
So, I took a break for a few weeks. Time to start fresh. I made a new deposit, and am moving back to the realm of $.05/$.10 and $.10/$.25 where I'll try to build it up again. I'll start posting here again, and have started posting to the Full Tilt Forum. I've had a few bad beats, but so far am hanging around my original buy-in. I'll keep you posted, if anyone is still out there listening. If not, this will be a good place for me to force myself to study my game again.
Cya at the tables.....
